<h3 class="text-secondary">The CEO Innovation &amp; Entrepreneurial Award was instituted in 2013 to honor the most innovative and impressive advancements made by employees.</h3>
<p>Since 2013, Quanta has collectively awarded more than $935,000 to the winners of this competition, and many of the ideas have been integrated into field processes. The purpose of this program is to continually encourage entrepreneurial drive and creativity — and to benefit our customers and the overall industry with ongoing innovation.</p>

<h3 class="h4">BRINK GROUND POUNDER</h3>
<p>Traditional methods for grounding rods for steel poles can be physically demanding and time consuming. Brink Constructors looked to automate the process, increasing production and lowering the risk of personal injury, by developing a self-contained ground pounder and trencher attachment on a Bobcat Tool Cat.</p>

<h3 class="h4">SEC ROPE INSTALLATION SYSTEM</h3>
<p>Employees at Service Electric developed a cost effective and innovative method for installing rope across environmentally sensitive areas such as a river or large valley, utilizing an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle or drone, which are then used to perform final conductor installations. This reduced the need for larger and more costly methods such as helicopters and provided a safe alternative for the employees.</p>


<h3 class="h4">PRICE GREGORY BELL HOLE BOX</h3>
<p>Trench work presents serious hazards to our work. The Price Gregory Bell Hole Box protects employees from what’s outside the box (cave-ins) but also keeps them safe from anything that could result from pipe movement inside the box. The Bell Hole Box not only increased the safety of the employees, but improved work conditions and reduced costs due to renting other third party trench boxes.</p>


<h3 class="h4">IRBY iOS APPLICATION</h3>
<p>Frequently, adjustments or checks are made in the field, requiring complex calculations without the benefit of an engineer. Having a tool that can assist in accurate calculations supports safe installations for all types of projects. The development of an app for iOS devices provided a &#8220;toolbox&#8221; of formulas and quick calculations for use in the field, building in capacity for everyday work tasks, removing the guesswork, and enabling all workers to obtain the information on demand.</p>


<h3 class="h4">UNDERWATER CAMERA INSPECTION SYSTEM</h3>
<p>The Underwater Camera Inspection System, an innovation submitted by Nova Group, aims to provide an alternative option for inspecting underwater piles, utilizing remote controlled GoPro cameras. This innovation not only exponentially reduces safety incidents in inherently dangerous operations, but also delivers a higher quality product with simultaneous gain in profit and schedule. With this innovation, Nova proved that technology can be used to reduce risk and even save lives.</p>


<h3 class="h4">PIPE PLACEMENT DEVICE</h3>
<p>Safety and Innovation are core values for Quanta. The Pipe Placement Device is an example of how safety and innovation came together to develop a tool that vastly improves a high risk task while moving pipe. Price Gregory uses the device every day to securely guide pipe while being suspended by a crane, keeping everyone involved safe during the transfer. It’s innovations like this that keep the Company a leader in the industry and brings our people home safely.</p>

<p>Quanta developed a handrail system that provides fall protection to employees while utilizing a bucket truck. The automated handrail system deploys when an employee sets the outriggers and prepares to enter the bucket and utilize the boom. The rail also self-stores once the employee is in the bucket and engages the boom controls. This helps prevent any unplanned contact or damage. This innovation has since been expanded for use outside of Quanta, to the industry as a whole.</p>

<p>Quanta perfected this innovation to verify an employee is safely attached prior to the truck beginning to move — preventing falls and adding to a safe working environment. The bucket cannot be operated without the lineworker being secured to the truck. In the case of a non-responsive operator, the controls on the ground can be used to override the controls in the bucket. This innovation has since been expanded for use outside of Quanta, to the industry as a whole.</p>


EPZGROUNDER TRAILER

<h3 class="h4 color-primary">EPZGROUNDER TRAILER</h3>
<p>Quanta invested more than $500,000 to develop and build the innovative EPZGrounder training product, in order to deliver advanced training that improves the entire industry. This mobile training simulator provides equipotential bonding and grounding scenarios at four overhead distribution stations, eight switchable underground stations and eight scaled-down transmission stations. Each is designed to replicate real-world scenarios and allow workers to create and test different equipotential grounding and bonding setups. The overhead and underground distribution lines can be energized independently.</p>
<p>The trainee’s work can be evaluated through the Lineman Meter, a touch-screen panel that simulates a worker’s heartbeat. If the work is done improperly, the heartbeat will flatline, allowing trainees to fail safely. At the overhead stations, trainees can install grounds from an elevated position while belted off to the pole. This allows them to develop correct work positioning and learn sequential installation of grounds. Trainees will also have access to a custom-built mobile app, which features high-quality 3d graphics that guide them through grounding and bonding scenarios for different structures.</p>
